We care about our soil. At Mandolé Orchard we do not cultivate our soil, limiting soil disturbance and helping to prevent soil erosion. All the nutrients we give to our trees benefit our soil. Our aim is to nurture and improve the biology of our soil with a strong focus on soil rejuvenation. This not only improves overall tree health, it also produces a high quality product and a long-term sustainable approach to farming. This includes using biological fertilisers that activate the micro-organisms in the soil allowing us to improve the overall health of our orchard. More than just a nut The nut itself is only one part of the almond. The rest, the shell and the hull, have many uses in agriculture. The shell can be used to add organic matter back into the orchard soil whilst the hull, which is high in potassium, is used for animal feed. In the dormancy phase of the life of an almond, all the leaves drop to the ground and naturally break down to create organic matter that gives nutrients back to the soil. Whilst almonds feed us and provide us with important nutrients, the almond tree itself absorbs carbon dioxide, helping to clean the air and supply oxygen.
